PRODUCT DESIGN
Graduation project DAE 2016 Material recycling is becoming increasingly important in the development of future products. Taking a second look at ‘end-of-use’ products allows us to discover new materials and possibilities.
Leather has always had a luxurious look, smell and feel. Yet, at a certain point, shoes, jackets and couches are worn out and end up in the incinerator. Seeking a way to prolong the lifecycle of this valuable natural material, Julie van den Boorn developed ‘Compoleather’. Used leather goods are shredded and mixed with hot water. When pressed in moulds and allowed to dry, the pulp gives rise to a new material that sticks together without the need for an extra binding agent.
Graduation project DAE 2016 The existence of an organism requires four elements in certain amounts: - FIRE, indicating warmth and light from the sun - EARTH, which stands for peace and a grounded body - AIR, measuring the quality of your environment - WATER, for moisture and humidity. In our daily lives we often receive these elements in the wrong quantities. COGNITIO CONSISTS OUT OF THREE PRODUCTS: a wearable and two home devices.
FIRE / EARTH FIRE, indicating warmth and light from the sun EARTH, which stands for peace and a grounded body Cognitio’s FIRE / EARTH home divice is a future lighting object that serves as a balance between rest and energy (earth and fire) in the form of light therapy. The light will react to the values measured by the wearable and will complement the qualities that we lack
AIR, measuring the quality of your environment WATER, for moisture and humidity. Cognitio’s AIR / WATER element divice is an indoor air purifier which usses living plants. The purifier will react to the values of bad quality’s of air measured by the wearable that day. Indoor air can be more polluted than the outdoor. Research (NASA clean air study) has demonstrated that certain plants are highly effective natural air purifiers.
Vertical design translated into vertical accessibility. Recess is a mix between contrasting geometrical shapes, material properties and reflecting shades.

Vertical design translated into vertical accessibility. My fascination with Industry and mechanical connections forms itself mostly in the visualization of details in my work.
